A late-night fire destroyed three recreational vehicles and two boats Thursday in Port Hadlock-Irondale.

No one was hurt in the blaze and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Crews from East Jefferson Fire Rescue were called to a possible wildfire on Maude Street at 11:39 p.m. Thursday, June 29.

The incident was upgraded to a vehicle fire while firefighters were en route to the scene, and the first crew arrived at the fire approximately six minutes after the initial dispatch.

East Jefferson Battalion Chief Justin Fletcher was the first on-scene, and reported three RVs and two boats fully engulfed in fire.

Flames were reaching a height of 15 feet and were beginning to spread into the nearby trees, according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue.  

Neighbors told emergency responders that no one currently lived on the property.

Firefighters quickly took an offensive strategy:  Engine 11 initiated an attack line for fire control and established a water supply. Engine 15 assisted with a secondary fire attack line, according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue, and Engine 91 from Indian Island provided mutual aid and assisted with fire control.

Quick work by the firefighters kept the fire from spreading to other nearby exposures.

Once the fires were knocked down, the crew from Engine 15 conducted a primary search in each of the RVs and reported all clear, according to the fire department. The largest boat on the property was determined to be too unstable for crews to enter safely. Ladder 16 was requested and crews were able to raise the platform and spray water down into the vessel to successfully extinguish the fire. 

Officials said the fire did not spread beyond the property lines.
