Two additional COVID-19 infections found in mid-county area

Jefferson County public health officials reported two new cases of COVID-19 in the mid-county area Wednesday.

The additional infection pushed the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Jefferson County to 525 Wednesday.

Jefferson County Public Health does not provide information on individual cases, but a review of updated case reports — compared to previous case information — indicate the new infections involves a mid-county woman in her 20s and a mid-county man in his 20s.

A total of 30 residents were still in isolation Wednesday due to potential COVID-19 contact.

Test results are pending for another four residents.

There have been 27,161 tests for COVID-19 in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic, and 26,632 have resulted in negative results.

In Jefferson County, 457 people have recovered from COVID-19 and 38 people have been hospitalized for the disease. (People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.)

Four deaths of Jefferson County residents have been linked to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
