Those who have recovered from COVID-19 are asked to donate blood

One effective treatment of COVID-19 might be found in the blood of those who have recovered from the disease. That is why national and state organizations urge those who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate blood and plasma as soon as possible.

People who have recovered from the virus might have developed antibodies against it that can be found in their blood. Treating those who currently have a disease with plasma that contains antibodies against it has been effective in treating other infectious diseases, and doctors need a continuous supply to test whether it will work.

“This program is looking for people who’ve had the COVID-19 disease and recovered, and have been symptom-free for 28 days, to be fully screened to donate their antibody-rich plasma,” Rebecca Haley of Bloodworks Northwest said in a press release. “People who believe they might qualify for this study and have received a previous positive test result are urged to contact us immediately at 206-689-6689 to assist these efforts.”
