The artsy month of May

Posted

Art enthusiasts crowded the streets of downtown Port Townsend on a sunny Saturday evening, May 6, to check out fresh paintings, sculptures, ceramics and more during First Saturday Art Walk.

The evening was especially colorful and creative, thanks to the displays of student art in merchants’ windows, part of the annual Art Wave program that takes place through May (see page B1).

Walking wearable-arts advertisements – a trio of women dressed up to promote the annual benefit show for the Fund for Women and Girls on May 13 – created a buzz with rustling recycled plastic-bottle skirts and other eye-catching ensembles (see photo on B3).

And underground, members of a 2017 Kinetic Skulpture racing team – the Intergalactic Pussy Alliance (IPA) – were working hard to finish their float in time for the Rhododendron Festival Parade.

(See more photos on page B8 of the May 10 edition).
