Students explore judicial branch in Olympia

Posted

Four Jefferson County students joined more than 200 other high school students from across the state Feb. 18 for a weekend in Olympia to explore the Washington state judicial branch through mock trials, knowledgeable speakers and experiential learning. The conference was offered through Washington state 4-H’s Know Your Government civic education program.

Delegates from Jefferson County included Ella Ashford, Katie Bailey, River Kisler and Joanna Sanok. Sunrise Rotary Club in Port Townsend, individual donors, and the youths’ own fundraising efforts funded their trip to Olympia.

The Know Your Government program seeks to bring high school students from across the state to share ideas, concerns and potential solutions to problems; to learn about state government and how to become a positive contributing citizen; and to strengthen the connection between youths and our political and social networks through education, experience, application and inspiration.
