Stop development to control the deer | Letter to the editor

I agree with Bonnie Masi who, in her letter to the editor, wrote in favor of implementing a birth control method for the deer population.

Usually it is done with the does and I reference the following articles about that approach:

humanesociety.org/resources/controlling-deer-populations-humanely

Inquiries can be made about neutering bucks, but it appears easier to spay or to use darts with a birth-control vaccine on the does and has been successful in other states. The dart method is less labor intensive as the doe does not need to be transported to a facility for the procedure.

Anyway, the details of such an approach can be worked out.

What appears to be an out-of-control deer population is actually a population that is continually squeezed into smaller and smaller habitats due to our continued development of wildlife habitats. It behooves us to cease further development as the woodlands absorb carbon dioxide, provide oxygen, beauty, wildlife habitat, and act as sponges soaking up rains which helps prevent flooding.
