The Port Townsend Public Library and Humanities Washington host a community conversation with Mike VanQuickenborne, a member of the 2016 Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau. This free event is set for 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2 at the Port Townsend Public Library, 1220 Lawrence St.
VanQuickenborne presents a unique take on the concepts of philosophy and comedy in relation to film, starting the discussion with brief clips from “Being John Malkovich,” “I Heart Huckabees,” “Intolerable Cruelty” and “Adaptation,”and then exploring the issues raised by each of these films.
Mike VanQuickenborne is a tenured philosophy instructor at Everett Community College and has taught philosophy at a variety of colleges on both sides of the Cascades. He has taught "Philosophy in the Cinema" since 2000. In 2008, with the help of a grant from Humanities Washington, he organized the world's first philosophical film festival, Philosophy in the Dark.
