It appears there are several qualified people running for Jefferson County commissioner this time. I can truly say there is only one that I can endorse whole-heartedly.
I have known and worked with Lorna Smith in
Cape George activities for many years. She is probably the most qualified person I know. She is a well-known naturalist who cares about the environment and the people and animals who inhabit it. Her work is absolutely ironclad. If she says she will do something, you can be sure it will be done, and done well. She is totally honest and will work until any project is completed.
It is no surprise she has the support and endorsement of so many excellent people and organizations. A lifetime of dedication to important issues and a record of solid achievement lends itself to a reputation for quality. To name a few, she is supported by the Washington Conservation Voters, the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington (that also endorsed Senator Van De Wege, Reps. Mike Chapman, and Steve Tharinger).
I have worked with Lorna on the Cape George Environmental Committee where she has kindly shared her expertise on animals and nature with the community in monthly films and lectures on those subjects. She and her husband have traveled the state giving presentations on vital issues related to Washington state wildlife.
Despite her busy schedule throughout the state, she has also contributed greatly to our county through her participation in local government. She has served on the Jefferson County Planning Commission for six years, as a voice and advocate for our welfare. She has also served on the Jefferson County Conservation Futures Committee for the past seven years, identifying projects representing thousands of acres of forest lands, farmlands and fish and wildlife habitats that have been given protective status.
I truly believe that Lorna is by far the best-qualified person for the position of county commissioner. She is a very intelligent person, and she has the heart to represent us in a way that will improve our county and make us all proud of her honesty and good will.
