Shop local, stay healthy

Posted

The shadow of the coronavirus has the potential to impact the economic health and viability of small farms in a very real and very sudden way.

If it’s valuable to you to see local farms stay in business, it is more important than ever to support your local farmers. If you hold dear the worth of what well-grown, well-raised nutritious food can do to support your health and your immune system, it is now more important than ever to shop locally.

Jefferson County’s open-air farmer’s markets, with newly implemented safety measures to protect everyone’s health and minimize risk, will be one of the safer places to shop for your food amid virus concerns. The market season opens on April 4th and I truly hope to see our community, those who are able, show up on that day and in all the following weeks to support our hard-working farmers and vendors.

If you are practicing social distancing during this time, signing up for a CSA share is another great (and economical) way to continue to feed yourself mightily well. CSA shares are typically delivered to an appointed spot on the same day each week to be picked up at your convenience, with no social interaction. Please strongly consider these options as you make your decisions about how to feed yourself and your family this year. The mission to help each other stay healthy and to keep our local farming economy alive will be a collaborative effort of the best kind. Thank you, sincerely and warmly, for your support.
