I want to keep my shopping local if possible and yesterday went to the parking lot in front of Ground To Perfection Espresso so I could shop at Quimper Mercantile and Don’s. There was one spot open in front of the Espresso shop and as often in the past, the owner had put a plastic buoy out so only she or he could park there. Also there were two aggressive kids out front guarding the spot. I asked them if the owner had a permit from the city and they smirked and said they did not need one because the police got their coffee there and granted verbal permission.

Hmmm...what does this mean? Free espresso? The young man actually got onto my car hood and both my car and I felt our boundaries violated. I left and took my shopping online, which does not help our local economy. I wonder if the coffee shop owner cares about anyone else but her own shop and its profits. Is this the community we want? I wondered if I had been a tourist what I would have thought of the hospitality in our Dream City.
