The Northwest Maritime Center presents two female-focused events this month, including an evening of sea stories told by female mariners and an art show.
“She Tells Sea Tales” begins at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 11 at the center, located at 431 Water St., Port Townsend.
Female mariners set to tell tales Saturday during “She Tells Sea Tales” include Nancy Erley, Kai Wallin, Mary Jane Gibson, Leslie Lincoln, Bonnie Obremski and others.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Beer, cider and food are to be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Visit 2017shetellsseatales.eventbrite.com.
“She Tells Sea Tales” benefits the Girls Boat Project, a maritime center program for girls ages 12-18.
The project is led by women from the staff of the Northwest Maritime Center who are skilled in boatbuilding, woodworking and sailing.
Students learn woodworking and boatbuilding techniques in the fall and winter, and receive longboat training in the spring. The program culminates with an overnight sailing adventure.
‘LOST AT SHE’
Throughout the month of March, the Northwest Maritime Center is presenting the “Lost at She” art exhibit. The show features both solo and collaborative artwork by Chandler O’Leary and Jessica Spring, centered around the theme of navigating the waters of feminism.
