The Chimacum School Board has unanimously voted to extend the employment contract for Superintendent Scott Mauk through 2025.
“I am really looking forward to continuing the great work here in Chimacum with my colleagues,” Mauk said after a recent school board meeting. “I am honored and delighted that the board has expressed confidence in my leadership by extending my contract.”
Mauk was hired in February 2021 to lead the school district following the departure of acting superintendent David Engle.
He was previously the principal at Edmonds Heights K-12, Alternative Learning Experience in the Edmonds School District, and before that, assistant principal/athletic director at South Whidbey High School.
At the late February school board meeting, the contract extension was quickly approved with no discussion.
Board Chair Kristina Mayer noted that a meeting between Mauk and the board was planned for April, with a written formal evaluation of the superintendent expected in June.
Mauk’s original contract had an end date of June 30, 2024, and came with a starting salary of $145,000.
The agreement also noted that any extensions of the contract would be discussed by the board on or around March 1 of each year of the contract, and give notice if the agreement is being extended.
The contract also dictates that on or before June 30, the Chimacum School Board will review a potential salary increase.
