The Port Townsend Safeway will hold a drive-up vaccination clinic this weekend.

Safeway pharmacists will provide vaccinations for the flu (kids six months and older), COVID-19 booster, pneumonia, Shingrix, and tetanus.

Appointments are not necessary, but reservations can be made at kordinator.mhealthcoach.net/vcl/1597878542322.

The clinic is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18.

The Centers for Disease Control are encouraging flu and other vaccinations this coming flu season to stay healthy and minimize the strain on health providers.

The flu is a contagious disease that typically spreads in the United States between October and May through coughing, sneezing, and close contact. Officials note that preventing against influenza during the COVID-19 pandemic is especially important, both to avoid getting other infections at the same time and reducing the burden on an already strained health care system. People at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, those with chronic health conditions, and individuals ages 65 and up.

The flu shot is free with most insurance. For more information, go to safeway.com/flu.
