Sign up now for a one-day marine weather workshop intended for anyone who lives or works on the water. The workshop takes place 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St. in downtown Port Townsend.
Cosponsored by Washington Sea Grant, Northwest Maritime Center and WSU Jefferson County Extension, the workshop is taught by marine weather experts Jay Albrecht and Dave Wilkinson, and prepares boaters for safety on Northwest waters. Among the topics are: relationships of atmospheric pressure and wind; determining the path and speed of squalls, and how to avoid them; and strong wind systems found offshore in the Northwest. The workshop is designed for boaters, fishers and kayakers, and anyone else on the water can benefit from this workshop.
Preregistration, $80, is required. To register or for more information, contact Sarah Fisken, 206-543-1225 or sfisken@uw.edu.
