Rise in COVID-19 cases continues in Jefferson County

Eighteen more residents have tested positive for COVID-19, Jefferson County health officials reported Wednesday.

Three new residents were also reported to have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 Wednesday.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Jefferson County rose from 695 to 713 Wednesday.

Positive COVID test results were reported across the county; eight in Port Townsend, eight in the mid-county area, one in south county, and one on the West End.

Six of the new infections involved females; the other 12 involved males.

New cases were reported in eight of nine age brackets that are tracked by Jefferson County Public Health; only the age group of residents in their 50s did not report any new COVID cases.

One resident under the age of 12 was infected, along with three residents between the age of 12 and 19. Three residents in their 20s, two residents in their 30s, two residents in their 40s, four residents in their 60s, one resident in their 70s, and two residents 80 or older all tested positive.

A total of 54 residents were still in isolation Wednesday due to potential COVID-19 contact.

A total of 21 test results are still pending, according to Jefferson County Public Health.

There have been 29,668 tests for COVID-19 in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic, and 28,934 have resulted in negative results.

New test results from 122 residents were received Wednesday.

In Jefferson County, 547 people have recovered from COVID-19 and 48 people have been hospitalized for the disease. (People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.)

Four deaths of Jefferson County residents have been linked to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
