Jefferson County’s got talent – talented young people, that is, as evidenced Sunday during the Stars of Tomorrow, an event sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Port Townsend. Students from second to 12th grade and from Chimacum to Port Townsend, including several who are home-schooled, turned out to show off their talents in singing, piano playing, dancing, drumming, guitar-playing and more.

Emillia Nunn wowed the audience with her sharp-witted stand-up comedy routine that poked fun at what it’s like to be a teenager. Nunn took control of the stage, gesturing wildly and appropriately. She didn’t miss a beat. And her political commentary about what to do with the overpopulation of deer in Port Townsend particularly hit home.

Nunn took first place in the junior division, and is to perform at the Jefferson County Fair this summer. She’ll also be at the Uptown Street Fair. She’s not to be missed.

The Sharp Flats, a group composed of Maya Dow, Max Miles, Morgan Trail and Grace Wentzel, were also standouts with an a cappella performance of “White Winter Hymnal,” which included a clapping sequence that was fun to watch and perfectly synced with the singing. Look for The Sharp Flats at the Concerts on the Dock, coming up this summer.

Forrest Brennan, drummer extraordinaire, also is to perform at the Concerts at the Dock. Brennan demonstrated skills with drums, bells and chimes in a complicated piece called “Wicca.”

Madison Boyd, who performed “Piece by Piece,” also has been invited to perform at Concerts at the Dock.

Alissa Jarvis, who is in the 10th grade, was last to perform, but she clearly stood out as someone to watch – and listen to – in the future. Jarvis’ performance, reminiscent of Adele, was nothing short of powerful.

Look for Sophia Breithaupt and Jessica Dowe at the Fort Worden “Old School 4th of July” event. These two young women perform as if they are in love with singing, and it’s a joy to watch them singing together. Their voices are clean and complement one another. It’s like listening to the sound of friendship when they sing.

Mia Torres, who played guitar and performed an original piece she called “Bloo(d)” also stood out, as did Liv Crecca, who wrote “The Girl.” It would be interesting to see these two young women perform together. Both are original. Both have a “something special” about them.

And finally, Anna Tallarico’s dancing to “Hold Back the River” was a sheer pleasure to watch. From the smile on her face, it was evident that she loves dancing.

All of the young people who performed displayed talent.

Annika Pearl, who entertained the crowd at the end of the show as the judges were deliberating, also was worth the price of admission, which was a whopping $7.
