‘Restaurant Impossible’ episode on Zoogs airs Feb. 4

It’s a rare thing to see a Jefferson County business featured on national television, yet that is where Zoogs Caveman Cookin restaurant appears on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

The Food Network channel's “Restaurant Impossible” show filmed a two-day episode in the Port Hadlock restaurant on Nov. 17-18, 2014. The show's premise is that with $10,000 for a physical makeover, expert advice and a ton of volunteer work, restaurants deemed to be failing can be given a fresh start.

The episode, titled “Betting the House” in apparent reference to owner Bret “Zoog” Forsberg’s poker prowess, has a different air date than originally announced.

According to the “Restaurant Impossible” website, the show airs at 7 p.m. West Coast time on Wednesday, Feb. 4, and airs again at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7.

Dinner reservations at Zoogs on Feb. 4 were nearly full as of early Monday afternoon.

The Food Network channel in Jefferson County may be viewed on Direct TV, channel 231; on Dish TV, channel 110; and on Wave Broadband cable, channel 47.

This is how the “Betting the House” episode, hosted by celebrity chef Robert Irvine, is described on the “Restaurant Impossible” website:

“Chef Robert Irvine has seen a lot of desperate restaurants, but Zoog's Caveman Cookin' in Port Hadlock, Wash., may just be the worst. At just two years old, it's repulsively dirty and the owner has lost his passion, leaving his inexperienced daughter to run the place. And if this wasn't enough of a challenge for Robert to overcome, the government shows up, threatening to close the doors of the restaurant."

The owners and staff at the Port Hadlock restaurant have not been allowed, by contract, to talk in-depth about the Food Network experience until after the episode has aired.
