When characters like the Proud Boys show up on the streets of Port Townsend, people need to say something. People whose voices matter.
In this scenario, the voices that matter most aren’t those of us lefties who are unsympathetic to the rally. The voices that matter are those who supported the rally, starting with Jefferson County Republicans.
I expect a loud, unequivocal denunciation from local leaders. No mincing of words. If the local GOP has already spoken out against these people, it wasn’t nearly loud enough. I haven’t heard anything, and I’ve been paying attention. An editorial in the newspaper would be a good idea.
Call me a cynic but I doubt they will. Imagine the mindset of people who actively support the sociopathic, anti-democratic, racist imbecile who occupies the White House.
Go ahead and prove me wrong.
