After the years of the pandemic school closures, Olympic Mountain Pet Pals is happy to report that Read to Rover is back with weekly sessions at Chimacum Creek Primary and Salish Coast second-grade classrooms.
Each Read to Rover team consists of one therapy dog and one volunteer with the kids reading to a dog for 15 to 20 minutes. Each child reads to three dogs during the hour-long session. Read to Rover has been a very popular program in Port Townsend for more than 10 years.
Thanks to a generous grant from Don and Sylvia White, Olympic Mountain Pet Pals was able to produce a professional video so that you can see for yourself how the program works and how much the children love it. Just go to your browser and type in “Olympic Mountain Pet Pals video.” Or you can link to youtu.be/kqFfSQS6q7g.
