The big bats are back in Quilcene.

The Rangers roared past Muckleshoot in varsity girls fastpitch softball last week, 28-8, and Quilcene’s ample offense overwhelmed Pope John Paul II on Monday, 17-0.

In last Wednesday’s matchup on the road, the Rangers scored early and often against Muckleshoot.

After starting the game with two successive outs, the Rangers went on a two-out rally and plated four runs. Emery Reimann blasted a two RBI double in a first-inning super swat for Quilcene.

The Rangers scored 10 in the second inning, aided by four walks and two hit batters. Savannah McBride’s two-run single capped the inning.

Quilcene’s offense reached double digits again in the fourth, with 10 runs on six hits. McBride had another RBI single, Abby Ward contributed an RBI single, and Sierra Graunke connected with a two- RBI single. She had three RBIs on the day.

The Rangers added four more runs in the fifth inning.

Abby Ward pitched all five innings for Quilcene, striking out seven while giving up six earned runs.

“Tough game to pitch in, hail showers, wind, a pretty tough line-up to face, but I thought Abby fought hard for the win today,” said Rangers Coach Mark Thompson.

Quilcene finished with 28 runs on 18 hits, and one error

The Kings totaled eight runs on four hits, and one error.

The win pushed the Rangers to 1-0 in league play, 4-1 overall.

Against the Eagles, Abby Ward and Charlotte Fay combined on a one-hit shutout of Pope John Paul II on the Rangers’ home field Monday in Quilcene.

The Rangers wasted no time, and scored five runs in the first inning. McBride led off with a double, Ward followed with an RBI triple, with Destiny Hack and Graunke also contributing with an RBI triples in the inning.

Quilcene scored nine more in the second inning, with Ward smashing her second RBI triple in the contest.

The Ranger offense wasn’t finished just yet.

In the fourth inning, Chloe Hack and Ashley Jones led off the inning with back-to-back triples, and the Rangers scored three more runs.

“Pitching was outstanding today. We limited the free bases, and put hitter away,” Thompson said.

Quilcene scored 17 runs on 17 hits, and made one error.

Pope John Paul II was held scoreless on one hit, and made three errors.
