I read the levy proposals concerning the Jefferson County fire department.
The proposal combining East Jefferson Fire Rescue and Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue seems like a good idea.
The proposals of the lid-lift from .83 cents per thousand to Option 1, $1.25; Option 2, $1.30; and Option 3, $1.50 are an unrealistic ask of the voters.
Yes, inflation may have increased 10.1 percent and that may be a reasonable ask, but the Option 1 increase is a 47.06 percent increase.
The Option 2 increase is 52.94 percent and the Option 3 increase is a 76.47 percent increase.
This is an unfair burden to the taxpayers, especially those on fixed incomes.
Assessments have gone up every year and the fire department has already received more money every year.
The fire department should fix their old equipment. I own a 2001 and a 2006 vehicle and I just get it fixed. I would love a new vehicle but can’t afford it.
During these inflationary times we do not need such radical increases to our tax burden.
