Quilters get set for Summer Sew Day | Letter to the editor

North Olympic Peninsula Quilts of Valor group is hosting its seventh Summer Sew Day on Saturday, July 16.

Starting at 9 a.m., quilters will gather to make quilts for veterans. All quilters are welcome, as well as the general public.

The event is located at the Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26, American Legion, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend.

You may enter either through the main entrance on Monroe or the side entrance on Water Street (watch for the sign).

We will have several kits, lots of patterns, some limited fabric, and will provide tables, extension cords, two irons and ironing boards (more if you bring one), a cutting table with mats and cutters. You will need your sewing machine, your favorite notions (pins, scissors, whatever — including a sewing lamp if you use one - the hall is pretty well lit, but the lights are quite a way up). If you are working on a Quilt of Valor, by all means, bring it along — we’d love to see it!

If not, choose from the kits, with the understanding that you have all the time you need, but we get the quilt back!

When your top is finished, bring it back to us, and we’ll get it quilted.

We can easily accommodate up to 15 sewers. While not required, you are welcome to mask if you are more comfortable doing so. The room is large, and we are spread out pretty well. If you don’t want to sew, you are still welcome to come and see what we’re doing, admire the finished quilts on display, and chat with us. If you’d like to come and help but don’t want to bring your machine, we always welcome “pressers” who will iron bits and pieces as needed.
