Quilcene man starts mobile tire service

Letting go of a corporate job after achieving a management- level position might be intimidating for some. But Robert Evans, a 17-year veteran of the tire industry, is among those brave enough to do it.

After working for years at Les Schwab Tire Center, Evans quit his job as a manager and opened his own mobile tire service, Evans Tire Co. LLC.

“There’s only one tire store out here,” Evans said, referring to his former employer. “In the whole peninsula area, there’s really only Les Schwab. Not a lot of companies come out here to the peninsula and when they do, they charge more, or it takes them a lot more time.”

Evans said he started the venture after being told by local farmers and loggers it would be “very beneficial” to them to not have to rely on just one company for their tire needs.

His start-up company is primarily commercial-focused, handling semi-trucks and tractors. But when he can, Evans is willing to take care of cars and light trucks, too.

“I have a tire machine and a balancing machine, all in my truck,” he said.

“So, if you need your tires rotated on your car, or if you need your snow tires put on, or you buy tires somewhere else and you just want me to install them, or if you want to buy them from me I can come straight to your house and put them on for you. No wait times, no nothing. Just schedule it and I’ll come straight to your house and do it — as long as my truck will fit.”

Evans said his company address is the same as his home address, so customers have sometimes shown up there. He stressed that he only works at the customer’s location.

Evans has lived in Quilcene with his wife Alysha and their four children for almost four years. They bought a house from relatives who wanted to retire and travel. His family’s desire to hit the road in a trailer coincided with Evans’ desire to leave southern California, where he had opened and managed a Les Schwab store.

Alysha works as a florist at QFC in Port Hadlock. The couple’s children, ages 15, 14, 13 and seven, attend Quilcene schools.

“We’re just a family that’s trying to make our claim here and stick it out for the long haul,” Evans said.
