A Quilcene man reportedly came upon a burglar in his home Tuesday, Sept. 15 and managed to hold the unarmed thief at gunpoint until police could arrive and arrest her, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said in an online post that just before midnight on Sept. 15, police were called to a report of a burglary in progress near the area of the Big Quilcene River.

According to police, the caller said that he’d “exited his residence and entered an enclosed garage portion of it to find a female sitting in his living room, smoking his marijuana.”

The man promptly retrieved his firearm and held the woman there until deputies arrived, police said.

The woman, who was from Lakewood, was reportedly compliant and taken into custody without incident.

Police said she could not provide a reason for being in the area or why she was at the man’s residence. The woman was transported to the sheriff’s office where she was booked for burglary and theft.
