Parents of students in 5th to 12th grade in the Port Townsend School District will have the opportunity to review Family Life and Sexual Health (FLASH) curriculum taught at different grade levels.

Topics will include HIV/AIDS prevation, healthy relationships, sexual identity, gender identity, sex and sexuality, pregnancy and parenting, puberty and anatomy.

Parents are invited to take part in their child’s education by attending so they can find out what their children are learning and continue the conversation at home.

Curriculum used meets state levels requirements to be medically and scientifically accurate and age appropriate.

Parents who attend one of the three information sessions will be able to opt their student out of the curriculum. Parents who are unable to attend one of the meetings will need to arrange a meeting with the school principal or special services director to preview materials before filling out the opt-out form.

The Port Townsend High School session will take place Feb. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the PTHS library.

The Blue Heron session will take place Feb. 26 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Blue Heron library.

The Salish Coast session will take place Mar. 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Salish Coast library.
