Sgt. First Class Martha Krabill, a singer, dancer and daughter of Anne and Dave Krabill of Port Townsend, is on her way back to the North Olympic Peninsula where she will share her vocal chops with her friends and neighbors. On her official agenda are two Pops and Picnic concerts with the 63-member Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra — in which she’ll have a rare gig sharing the stage with her folks, according to a press release. Anne, an oboist with the symphony, and Dave, a bassoonist, have watched their daughter’s military and musical career since she joined the Army in 2001. Stationed in Fort Myer, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C., Krabill a sings with the Joint Service Choir at national events such as President George H.W. Bush’s state funeral. Back where she grew up, Krabill will appear as a featured soloist in Pops and Picnic at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles. She’ll do a variety of musical numbers including Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” arranged for symphony orchestra — plus a couple of surprises she chose with conductor Jonathan Pasternack. “Jonathan has been so open to different ideas I’ve had, and he has also selected a piece out of my regular comfort zone,” Krabill said. The Pops and Picnic program also includes classics from Bizet and Debussy, the comic “1712 Overture” by P.D.Q. Bach, “The Typewriter” by Leroy Anderson, and selections from the movies and Broadway. Music lovers are invited to bring picnics while the symphony provides beverages, dessert and concert. Tickets are available via the symphony office, over the phone at 360-457-5579 and at the door.
