The Port Townsend High School Orchestra presents its Winter Stringfest from 3 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17.
Orchestra members are to be joined onstage by students from grades 3 to 12, who are to work with guest clinicians the morning of the concert.
“This is our third year putting this on,” orchestra teacher and conductor Daniel Ferland said in a press release. “But this time we’ve made it bigger than ever. We have schools coming here for the first time who are thrilled to play for our community.”
The group of about 140 musicians are set to perform a wide variety of songs— from a standard Romantic period piece to an orchestral take on a traditional American fiddle song, to an arrangement of a beloved Christmas classic.
The concert is free. $5 raffle tickets for Amazon gift cards can be purchased at the door. Proceeds go toward the high school orchestra’s trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, next spring for a clinic with the University of B.C.’s School of Music, and Bellingham to compete in the University of Western Washington State Orchestra Festival. The last two Winter Stringfests helped fund trips to music competitions in Gresham, Oregon, and San Francisco.
