There is a mantra I hear after disaster strikes in so many places now. Government officials in Vermont, Maui, etc. all say, “This is unprecedented, we were not prepared. We thought it could never happen to us.”

How many shots fired over the bow do we need to take heed right here? The climate chaos is coming faster than almost anyone is willing to admit, lest they lose an election or the funding for their research.

What are we doing in Port Townsend in anticipation of severe drought? Catastrophic fire? What are we doing to prepare for inevitable sea level rise?

Maybe there is something smarter than rebuilding the water system on Water Street for millions of dollars. Maybe there is something smarter than building a new hotel at virtual sea level.

Ask the natives why they are moving their villages to higher ground now. Maybe there is courageous leadership waiting in the wings. Let's go!
