Port Townsend is continuing its background screening of the city’s new police chief.
City officials announced earlier this month that Thomas Olson, the deputy chief of the University of Washington Police Department, has been offered the job of chief for the Port Townsend Police Department.
Olson has already accepted a conditional employment offer from the city; his first day is expected to be Monday, May 3.
The city’s final offer depends on Olson passing a background check, polygraph, medical exam and psychological exam.
His polygraph test was Thursday, March 11, according to City Manager John Mauro.
The psychological exam is set for Thursday, March 18, with the medical exam — which includes a drug test, health exam, X-rays, EKG, and more — is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25.
The final background report had an expected arrival date of March 12.
