The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 143 calls between Friday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Sept. 1. Below are selected reports.

At 7:35 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, a construction employee in the 500 block of Sheridan Street reported that somebody tagged their building materials with black-marker graffiti.

The worker handed video evidence to police showing two suspects enter the property overnight and tag multiple locations around the area.

Damages were estimated to be around $1,000. The suspects remain unknown, but the crime is under investigation.

At 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, a theft was reported in the 300 block of Benedict Street. A hotel guest told police that an engagement ring, Fitbit watch, and $200 in cash were taken from the dresser in their room.

The guest had been staying there since April, and around $3,100 in total value had been stolen. The guest told officers that a “Do Not Disturb” sign was put on their door and the hotel manager is reviewing video to see who may have entered the room. There are no suspects.

At 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, a caller in the 2100 block of Sims Way informed police of a dark blue SUV parked with two dogs locked inside.

An officer located the SUV and noted that the windows were rolled down a small amount and the canines appeared to be fine.

The officer spoke with the dogs’ owner and recommended providing water in the car while away from the vehicle.

At 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the 2300 block of Washington Street, a man reported a disagreement between him and a waiter, stating that the waiter had threatened him.

The argument occurred an hour earlier while the man was eating lunch at a local restaurant.

He was upset with the service at the eatery, and said that it escalated to the waiter getting within inches of his face and threatening to punch him.

Officers arrived at the restaurant to speak with their staff, who shared a much different story than the man. The  staff told police the man was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave, and added that no threats of punching the man had been made.

The staff did not want the man to return, and the officer told them to call the police if he came back.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, an employee in the 1500 block of West Sims Way told police that a back office had been broken into.

An unknown suspect shattered the back window to get inside and then ransacked the office.

The employee was unsure if anything was stolen, and the store didn’t have any video or suspect information. The damage was estimated to be around $300.

At 11:35 a.m. Wednesday,
Aug. 31,
in the 1900 block of Blaine Street, an employee at the local swimming pool informed police of a threatening phone call that had been received.

The employee said the caller referred to liberal people in a negative light and suggested that they wouldn’t survive a nuclear apocalypse.

The caller continued, complaining about Port Townsend City Council and wanting to cause a disturbance. The employee did not take the threat seriously, but wanted law enforcement to be aware of it.
