Posted

The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 127 calls between Wednesday, July 6, and Thursday, July 14. Below are selected reports.

At 11:55 a.m. Saturday, July 9, police were informed that the pickleball court near the 900 block of Blaine Street had been tagged with graffiti.

Officers arrived and noted that the graffiti was actually chalk and messages were written on the court. Officers didn’t say what exactly was written, but noted an ongoing dispute between pickleball players and a nearby resident who had previously complained about the court.

Officers spoke to the neighbor who confirmed he’d chalked the messages and was upset with the sounds players make at the court. A pickleball player said the neighbor doesn’t like them or the local club. The messages were nonthreatening and a crime hadn’t occurred, so officers left.

At 5:30 a.m. Sunday, July 10, a laundromat in the 200 block of Thomas Street reported a burglary. A thief wearing a mask broke into the business and took quarters from the laundry machines.

The crime had occurred overnight and the property owner shared video footage with police.

At 9:15 a.m. Sunday, July 10, in the 400 block of Sims Way, a potential shoplifter was reported by a store employee. The suspect was identified and had stolen from the business before.

Officers arrived on the scene and contacted the woman, eventually recovering stolen property from her. The woman was cited and released.

At 9:55 a.m. Sunday, July 10, a car prowl was reported in the 1200 block of 43rd Street. The vehicle’s owner said their car’s title, registration, and a bag of fishing gear were stolen from the car.

The stolen bag contained four tackle boxes and multiple fishing reels worth $500 in total. The car owner said they were unsure whether the thief broke into the vehicle or if it was left unlocked.

At 9:40 a.m. Monday, July 11, in the 2300 block of Third Street, police were told that a 2003 Saab had been broken into. They confirmed that they’d left their key in the Saab and were unsure if anything had been taken. The car had broken down earlier on the road and was towed to an auto business, where the key had been left in the door. Nothing was confirmed taken except for the key, worth $200.
