The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 156 calls between Friday, May 20, and Thursday, May 26.  Below are selected reports.

At 12 p.m. Friday, May 20, a caller in the 1800 block of 21st Street reported mail theft to police. The man said that he had not been receiving his mail recently and suspected that his ex-wife could be stealing it from his mailbox.

At 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, someone in the 1500 block of Ninth Street suspected that a nearby abandoned building had been broken into. Officers came over to investigate, and found a door kicked in and broken windows at the property. Nothing appeared to be missing from the building and no value was placed for damages.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the West Sims Way and Haines Place intersection, a vehicle collision was reported. Three vehicles were involved in the collision, and no major injuries were observed.

According to reports, one vehicle was driving down the road and rear-ended a car stopped at a red light, which then hit another car stopped in front of it due to the initial collision. The Washington State Patrol was advised and assisted with the investigation. The driver of the vehicle that rear ended the first car showed signs of impairment at the scene and was arrested for DUI.

At 4:45 p.m. Saturday, May 21, a caller reported suspicious activity near the old ferry dock on Water Street. They told police they saw a young man standing on the pylon, looking like he was going to jump.

Officers arrived at the scene and contacted the young man, who was still on the pylon. He left after being requested to do so and was counseled on the potential dangers of his actions.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in the 3000 block of West Sims Way, a caller reported a man digging for copper in a nearby dumpster.

He had pulled out a bunch of copper scraps and left them in a bucket, then left on his bicycle after being confronted by the caller.

He was described as a male in his 40s with tattoos on his arms and blonde or reddish hair, as well as having a wallet on a chain. Officers drove over and spoke with the caller. The caller wanted the man to be trespassed, but the man wasn’t identified and thus couldn’t be handed a trespass order.

At 9:55 p.m. Sunday, May 22, an employee in the 400 block of West Sims Way reported that alcohol had been stolen from their store by a group of minors. The employee said there was a group of five adolescents, two male, two female, and one unknown, and that they fled the area in a red Honda Accord. They took $50 worth of alcohol, and store video footage was handed to police for further investigation.

At 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, a caller reported malicious mischief in the 1200 block of Hancock Street to police. Paint had been dumped all over a mailbox and fire hydrant nearby, and it appeared to have been done overnight. Officers arrived at the scene and took photographs of the damage.
