Port Townsend Police Log | Jim will take care of it

The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 143 calls between Friday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Sept. 1. Below are selected reports.

At 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31,
in the 3700 block of San Juan Avenue, a pedestrian reported hearing two gunshots while walking in the area.

The woman told dispatchers she’d heard the shots coming from about 30 yards away in the woods, then saw a deer stagger out with a bullet hole in its side before falling to the ground.

The woman was asked if she saw who shot the deer, and she said no, adding that this actually occurred yesterday.

While reporting the incident to police, the woman stated that “Jim” would come by and take care of the deceased deer. The woman added that Jim confirmed the gunshot but didn’t locate the bullet.

The dispatcher asked the woman what she meant by “Jim will take care of the deer,” and she said she didn’t know.

Police attempted to call the woman back later, but it went straight to voicemail and the inbox was full. Currently, there are no suspects or leads for the suspected gunshots and the incident is under investigation.

At 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, a pool employee in the 1900 block of Blaine Street told police that one of the locks on the pool facility’s doors was broken and the door was unlocked.

Officers came to the scene and searched for intruders and didn’t find anyone.

After investigating, officers discovered two unsecured doors in total and predicted the locking mechanisms had worn out from wear and tear. There was no sign of forced entry, nothing out of place, and nothing on the pool’s security cameras.

The officers did later find a slip of paper with the phrase “Let Julie Sink” taped to the facility’s front door. The phrase referenced a recent controversy at the pool over a woman who was banned from the pool back in July.

Officers took photos of the slip of paper and removed it from the door at the employee’s request.

At 8:44 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the 300 block of Sims Way, two customers were reportedly hitting each other in a store lobby.

The store manager informed police of the incident, saying that one person was a coworker and the other was his ex-wife.

The manager said that the ex-wife grabbed him and started slapping him in the face before running away toward Kah Tai Lagoon.

The ex-wife was detained by officers in the nearby park, and after viewing video evidence, was placed under arrest for assault.

At 10:05 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, a caller on Clay Street reported hearing an altercation between two people nearby. They heard a male and female voice.

Officers arrived and spoke to the two people. The woman had been arguing with her boyfriend but it hadn’t turned physical.

The woman said she was staying in Port Townsend for the night then leaving for California the next day.
