The Port Townsend Police Department received 93 calls for service between Friday, Dec. 9 and Thursday, Dec. 15. Below are selected reports.

At 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, in the 1100 block of Water Street, a caller reported a man honking and yelling in a white van in front of a nearby eatery. He’d been there for around an hour.

Police contacted the man, who said he’d been singing Santana and that he was going to get a pizza. No crime had occurred, and the officers left.

At 3:35 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, a stray dog was near the 2200 block of Towne Point Avenue and was seen walking around the neighborhood.

The reporting party had gotten ahold of the dog and put it in the backyard until police arrived. The officers located someone else looking for a dog, but they were looking for a different canine. The reporting party said they’d keep the dog in their yard until the next day, and if nobody claimed it, they’d bring the animal to a local shelter.

At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, a theft was reported in the 400 block of West Sims Way after a bag of groceries was stolen from the trunk of a woman’s car.

The woman told police the bag contained $40 of goods, and the woman was reimbursed by the grocery outlet. There was no damage to the woman’s car, and the business told police that they don’t have any video surveillance of the outside parking lot where the theft occurred.

At 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, the same man from an earlier call was reported to police again for screaming and laughing in his van with the flashers on. Police spoke with the man, but he wouldn’t give his name and was aggressive in response to any questions.

The man didn’t appear to be under the influence, but officers noted he might have mental health troubles. No crime was committed and the officers left.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 in the 2800 block of Washington Street, a caller informed police of possible gunshots coming from the commercial docks at Boat Haven Marina. An officer in the area didn’t report hearing anything. Port security told the officer the sound could’ve been from clashing metal from work being done at the Navy installation on Indian Island.

At 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, a woman in the 400 block of West Sims Way reported a suspicious man in a van following her sister in the parking lot.

She said the man kept whistling at her sister and asking her to come closer to the van. Officers contacted the sister, who said she was afraid because the man kept talking and appeared to be trying to get her closer to the van. She attempted to get the van’s license plate number, but didn’t. The van was gone by the time police arrived, and the officers advised the woman and her sister to call 911 if the man returned.

At 10:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, an unwanted person was reported in the 100 block of Hudson Street near the Point Hudson Marina.

Security at the port said they’d seen a van parked at the property the last two nights, with lights on inside but nobody answering. Officers contacted the van’s owner, advising him that he couldn’t park at the marina overnight.
