The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 189 calls for service between Saturday, Aug. 12 and Friday, Aug. 18. Below are selected reports.

At 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 on the 300 block of Discovery Road, a caller stated two people were standing suspiciously at the edge of their property. One had a headlamp. When officers contacted the subjects, they learned they were picking berries on the city’s right-of-way. No crime was committed.

At 4:52 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 on the 500 block of Sheridan Street, a previously trespassed male subject entered a store and stated he was going to hurt himself. The subject had already been evaluated at the hospital earlier that day. He was arrested and booked into the jail.

At 10:11 a.m. through 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, an officer performed speed enforcement in areas of San Juan Avenue and Discovery Road. The officer conducted multiple traffic stops throughout the days at random times.

At 11:17 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 on the 2600 block of E Sims Way, a caller reported a shoplifter who stole from the store approximately two hours prior. Officers were able to identify the suspect through surveillance footage. The suspect was located, issued a criminal citation for theft in the third degree, and given a trespass admonishment.

At 8:54 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Point Hudson Marina, a male was reported harassing people by taking their picture while calling them names. The subject got in the reporting party’s face and yelled, then walked off and started yelling at a female. Officers arrived on the scene, but the suspect had left the area and they were unable to locate him.

At 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 on the 2300 block of W Sims Way, a female subject was caught trespassing on a boat. She struck the reporting party with a cane, then went into a store and slapped items off of a shelf. Officers located the subject and arrested her for two counts of assault in the fourth degree and disorderly conduct. She was booked into the jail.

At 5:18 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 on the 900 block of Water Street, a caller witnessed an intoxicated man strike a motorcyclist in the face twice. Officers developed a probable cause and soon after located the suspect. The man was arrested for assault in the fourth degree and disorderly conduct, and booked into the county jail.

At 7:31 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14 on the 900 block of Water Street, a male was reported sleeping in the doorway of a building where the caller lived. The suspect had also been urinating on the stairs. Officers located the suspect, trespassed him, and told him to move along. He complied.

At 8:21 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, a disturbance was reported on the corner of Hastings Avenue and Thomas Street. The reporting party told officers a male was yelling, “Everyone is next!” Another caller reported the male was screaming and cussing, then entered the trails. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate him.

Between 7:50 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, officers conducted eight traffic stops in random areas of the city. The increase in traffic enforcement is in response to concerns about speeders from citizens.

At 12:29 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 on the 2400 block of W Sims Way, officers located two subjects dumping trash in a dumpster. The subjects were warned they were trespassing. The officers explained to them that unauthorized use of the dumpster was prohibited.

At 8:51 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 on the 200 block of Madison Street, a man was reported sitting on a bench screaming. When confronted by officers, the male refused to identify himself or speak with the officers. He was told to quit screaming, and he moved along. No further reports came in on this subject.

At 1:55 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, an audible commercial burglar alarm was activated at the Port Townsend High School. Officers investigated and confirmed it was a false alarm.

At 1:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 on the 200 block of Monroe Street, a call came in reporting animal abuse. When officers arrived, they found a small dog locked in a running vehicle with the air conditioning on. They determined the call was unfounded; no animal abuse occurred.

At 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 on the 1100 block of Lawrence Street, a male illegally entered a building through a slider. As the caller was reporting this, they hung up on the dispatch. Officers established containment of the building, but learned that the suspect had fled on foot at the time of the call. The building was cleared by officers. They identified the suspect and developed probably cause for burglary. The suspect, who was also wanted in Port Angeles for arson and burglary, was arrested on Aug. 20.

At 4:19 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, city employees reported graffiti at the Port Townsend Skate Park. They told officers they had seen two males leave in a Land Cruiser right before they discovered the fresh paint. The license plate was identified and officers are currently investigating.
