The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 175 calls between Friday, May 12, and Thursday, May 18. Below are selected reports.

At 9:25 a.m. Friday, May 12, in the 800 block of Polk Street, a fraud call was reported. The caller sent money to Arizona to buy an amplifier, but never received it. The caller is out $815 and the case is under investigation.

At 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, a stray dog was seen near the Nora Porter Loop and Hancock Street intersection. The canine, a black lab, appeared to be emaciated and skinny. A resident was feeding the dog when officers arrived, and the canine was taken to a local animal shelter.

At 7:35 p.m. Friday, May 12, a man was disturbing the public in the 700 block of Water Street, yelling at people while walking on the beach. The man was described as being 5-foot-7 with a medium build and brown hair. Officers contacted the man, who was still at the beach and drinking alcohol. He was asked to leave due to having an open container and he obliged.

A short time later, law enforcement received more calls regarding the same person, with passersby saying he was threatening them and attempting to start a fight. He was contacted by officers again and arrested for disorderly conduct.

At 2:45 a.m. Saturday, May 13, in the 500 block of Snagstead Way, trespassing was reported after an unknown man walked into the caller’s home. The man, in his mid 30s, didn’t know where he was and appeared to be very confused.

The caller and the man spoke until officers arrived, and the man said he was visiting his sister who lives in a cabin on the property. He accidentally entered the wrong home after a night of drinking. He was given a verbal warning by police not to return to the residence and to not bother the caller any further. No criminal charges were sought.

At 2:20 p.m. Saturday, May 13, a theft was reported in the 500 block of Sheridan Street after a man wearing a black sweatshirt stole multiple items from a store in the area. The suspected thief was described as being around 5-foot-3, in his 30s, and having blonde, short hair.

Officers arrived and spoke with an employee, who said the man took around $20 worth of energy drinks and a Powerade drink. The store manager identified the man and told police he’d give them a call if the man returns.

At 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13,
in the 1500 block of 19th Street, a woman screaming and cursing. A caller said she’d been yelling for the last 15 minutes, and officers arrived to speak with the woman. She said she wasn’t screaming and heard the call on her police scanner. The officers asked if she knew who was screaming, and she said they could pick any apartment because everyone is crazy there.

At 4:35 p.m. Saturday, May 13, a theft was reported at a grocery store in the 400 block of West Sims Way.

A woman walked into the business with a bag, filled it with unknown items, and walked out without paying. The woman was described as being heavy set with brown hair and makeup. Officers contacted her on Sims Way, but the woman no longer had the items in her possession. The officers contacted the store manager, who said the theft was reported by a customer. Law enforcement didn’t have enough supporting evidence to detain the woman and left.

At 11 a.m. Sunday, May 14, someone complained about an RV parked in the 2400 block of Washington Street. An officer contacted the vehicle’s owner and warned them that the RV must be moved within 24 hours.

The officer located the RV parked in the same spot the next day and tagged it for 24-hour removal.
