The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 123 calls between Friday, Dec. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 5. Below are selected reports.

At 12:27 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, malicious mischief was reported in the 2000 block of Washington Street after a hotel employee informed police of the business’ phone and power lines being vandalized.

Officers investigated the crime, noting that the wires were cut intentionally but nothing had been stolen from the hotel.

At 2:17 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30 in the 400 block of Kearney Street, a taxi driver reported being assaulted.

The driver told law enforcement that a man had pulled his beard, pushed him, and chest-bumped him.

The incident turned physical when the taxi driver told the man it cost $10 to cancel his fee, which the man responded by throwing $10 in cash at him and proceeding to assault him.

The driver was not interested in pursuing charges against the man.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, several reports were made in the 1000 block of Grant Street about a taxi service illegally operating in the area.

Reporting parties told police that the cab was from Everett and was taking clients without a license for the Port Townsend area. It is illegal to operate a taxi service in town without a business license from the city, according to city code. Officers were unable to locate the cab.

At 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, staff at a nonprofit service in the 200 block of Monroe Street reported a man making threats.

He repeatedly said that the staff should be shot and killed. The man was removed from the building.

At 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, a trespass call was made in the 700 block of 10th Street after a resident reported seeing a homeless person camped out on the property.

Officers found a camp in the bushes behind the residence, but nobody was around. An officer came back later and located the subject, who appeared to have fled the camp prior to police arriving. The man denied it was his camp. He was told that if it was his camp, he needs to move along or the property owner will dispose of the items that had been left there.
