A pair of Port Townsend residents were arrested in the early morning hours Tuesday, Aug. 11 for a number of alleged offenses including eluding a police vehicle, a felony, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
A deputy reportedly attempted to stop a 28-year-old PT man who was speeding while driving on Highway 104. After he failed to yield, the man continued to speed across the Hood Canal Bridge into Kitsap County, eventually losing control while attempting to maneuver a corner. The car slid into a ditch on Highway 3.
The driver fled but was eventually located and apprehended after a K-9 unit was brought in to track down the man.
During a subsequent search, a large quantity of methamphetamine was found inside his car.
The man's passenger, a 51-year-old Port Townsend woman, was later arrested in relation to the incident.
According to an online post by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Thursday: "Both the driver and passenger were booked into the [Jefferson County] Jail for charges ranging from Felony Eluding a Police Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, and a DOC felony escape warrant."
A department spokesperson also extended a "special thanks" to the Poulsbo Police Department and the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit for their assistance.
