Port Townsend Gallery has four featured artists in December

Four artists will be featured at the Port Townsend Gallery in December.

The spotlight shines this month on Kristen Wade, Andrea Guarino-Slemmons, Martha Collins, and Shirley Moss.

Wade will be displaying her silver and gemstone original designs. Inspired by nature, the textures and prints in many of her earrings, pendants, and bracelets come from live plants such as jasmine, strawberry, rose, fig, and sage gathered from her garden.

Wade has been a jeweler for more than 25 years and creates unique, wearable art. Her work has been shown in numerous galleries and arts and crafts shows throughout the Pacific Northwest and along the West Coast.

Guarino-Slemmons has been making jewelry for more than 30 years and has been recognized as one of the top glass bead artists, including being named Jewelry Artist of the Year from Bead and Button Magazine.

Guarino-Slemmons has expanded her work to include creating special art jewelry pieces using advanced silver smithing techniques, and spends many hours searching the shore for sea glass and unique beach stones suitable for her art jewelry creations.

Moss, “The Chainmaker,” has been creating handmade chains for 50 years. Her grandfather, a jewelry instructor, influenced her work and she did her first show in a little park in Michigan at the age of 16.

The gallery will showcase Moss’ varied designs of hand-linked chains, fashioned with solid sterling silver, 14-karat gold, and gold fill wire.

Collins has been exploring the interplay of different natural woods and dyed maple veneer for 45 years and makes unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry from wood. She uses sustainably harvested hardwoods from all over the world, their natural beauty accentuated with dyed maple veneer. Her intricate pieces can have up to 1,000 pieces of wood, and she also creates earrings, pendants, and necklaces.

The Port Townsend Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is also open by appointment. The gallery is located at 715 Water St.
