Port Ludlow Artists’ League presents its February show, “Mightier than the Sword: A Study in Pen, Pencil & Graphite.”

All of the featured artworks were created with everyday writing instruments that we “tend to take for granted,” according to organizers.

League artists Fran Bodman, Jeanne Joseph and Marti Mathis have taken these humble utensils to create visual stories that are minimalist in design and embody simplicity. Expanding the collection’s variety are pictures done in pens and markers, giving the viewer a burst of color and a sense of fun to lighten even the winter’s darkened mood, said show organizers.

All are welcome to the league’s Second Wednesday reception on Feb. 8 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the lobby of Sound Community Bank. Next door, the League Gallery is open from 4 to 6 p.m. The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.
