Shirley Bomgaars has been recognized as the Port Ludlow Art League’s Artist of the Month, and Georganne Muse has been named Jeweler of the Month.
According to the art league, Bomgaars employs a whimsical style of expression. She enjoys exploring innovative subjects and new media, both on large canvases and in small watercolors.
Bomgaars uses traditional light and the more challenging black canvases, with whimsy on display through her subject matter, perspective, and avant-garde color choices.
The league will present her “Go Big or Go Small” art exhibit in April at the Sound Community Bank and online at portludlowart.org.
An artist’s reception is planned for 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 in the lobby of the bank, followed by the second half of the gathering from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Port Ludlow Art League Gallery next door.
The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow.
Muse, the league’s featured jeweler for the month, first made artisan wire jewelry but quickly discovered she had a talent for creating striking jewelry pieces with the semi-precious stones she had collected over the years.
In April, she will be showing her jewelry that features sterling silver and semi-precious stones reflecting the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
For her Pacific Northwest jewelry collection, Muse uses white pearls reminiscent of clouds on a warm summer day, blue stones representing the sky’s reflection off the water, orange stones portraying fiery sunrises and sunsets, and green stones depicting the region’s verdant forests. Some of her jewelry also include shells and driftwood collected while beachcombing.
During April, her jewelry collection will be on display at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery and at Sound Community Bank and online at portludlowart.org.
The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow. The league notes that beginning in April, the gallery will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
