A watercolor artist and a jeweler who specializes in gemstone creations have been named as the Port Ludlow Art League’s artists of the month for February.
Allyne Lawson is the artist of the month. The league notes that Lawson’s watercolors reveal her fascination with the unique beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Aside from the emotions her watercolors elicit, Lawson is enthralled with how colors interact with nature and the way light dances across surfaces.
“Nature is ever-changing, providing a never-ending variety of subjects to paint,” she said.
Lawson was raised in the Edmonds-Lynnwood area and later moved to Southern California with her husband, where she spent more than 20 years working as a visual arts instructor. Since returning to Washington and settling in Sequim, she has been devoting her time to her passion for watercolor painting.
Her paintings will be on display at Sound Community Bank in Port Ludlow and online at portludlowart.org.
Beth Olson is the leagues’ jeweler of the month.
Her passion for creating one-of-a-kind jewelry was inspired by meeting a family friend who made her living creating gemstone jewelry.
Olson and her friend would scour gem shows for chaledony, turquoise, garnet, jade, and other semi-precious stones, along with the proper tools to create jewelry.
Olson not only loves the creative process, she also enjoys meeting shoppers at various art fairs and delights in the pleasure people take in wearing her jewelry.
In February, her jewelry designs will be on display at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery and at Sound Community Bank. Her jewelry can also be seen online at portludlowart.org.
The bank and gallery are located at the corner of Oak Bay Road and Osprey Ridge Drive in Port Ludlow. The gallery is open from noon to
4 p.m. every Thursday and Friday.
