Port Hadlock woman flown to Harborview after rollover

A Port Hadlock woman was flown to Harborview Medical Center after she sustained serious injuries in a Nov. 6 rollover collision near Port Hadlock.

At about 2 p.m., the woman was driving a green Subaru Forester northbound on Redeemer Way/Totem Ridge Road northeast of Chimacum Road when she reportedly lost control and careened off a wooded embankment about 20 feet tall. Emergency responders initially believed the woman is in her 20s.

“This was driver error,” Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Avery said while helping prepare the wrecked vehicle for removal from the small ravine. “It appears that there was some speed involved and they lost traction coming around the corner. It looks like they hit the ditch sideways, and slid sideways for several hundred feet. They hit this tree at the top of the hill, spun around the tree and rolled down this hill at least three or four times.”

The Subaru smashed into a stand of trees, and it came to rest right side up.

During the fall, the driver and two passengers – a 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man – were tossed about the cabin of the vehicle because they were not wearing seat belts.

“The driver was recovered in the back of the car,” Avery said.

Initial reports indicated the woman initially was trapped and had to be extricated by responding emergency personnel. The driver sustained head injuries in the collision, said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire Rescue public information officer.

EJFR responded to the wreck after it received a call at 2:04 p.m., Beezley said.

The driver was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, while one passenger was taken by ambulance to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Beezley said. The second passenger was taken via ambulance to Jefferson Healthcare.

The names of the driver and passengers, all residents of Port Hadlock, have not been released.

The car was totaled and towed from the scene by Northwest Towing with assistance from All City Towing.

Units from Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue, Naval Magazine Indian Island and Quilcene Fire Rescue assisted.
