Pickup rolls, ends up in the woods after turning onto SR 20 south of Port Townsend

A man walked away from a rollover accident at the intersection of S.R. 19 and S.R. 20 – near the old Courtesy Ford car lot – on Thursday at 2:35 p.m.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue responded to the accident, at which the driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Jefferson Healthcare’s hospital.

According to witnesses, an older brown pick-up truck was traveling southbound on S.R. 20, weaving back and forth across the highway. The witnesses followed the pick-up approximately two miles to the light at the intersection of S.R. 19, where the driver attempted to make a right-hand turn to remain on S.R. 20.

The witnesses stated that they did not see brake lights. The pickup left the highway in a southerly direction, rolling over approximately three times, one of those being an end-over-end roll. The vehicle ended lying on the driver’s side, in the neighboring forest.

While one witness held the truck in position, another helped extricate the driver. Once free of the vehicle, the driver proceeded to pull the vehicle back down on all four wheels before walking a short distance and collapsing in the grass. District 1 personnel treated him there.

Law enforcement officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
