Jane Peoples was declared the new Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club 2021 Champion after finishing first in the club’s annual Captain’s Cup Tournament, which was comprised of two 18-holes rounds of golf. 

In this tournament the best score on each hole of the two rounds was used to determine the players’ final gross scores and net scores (gross minus handicap).

Peoples shot her way to the title with a total eclectic gross score of 77 between the two rounds.

Wanda Synnestvedt followed closely behind, and snagged second place with a low gross score of 78.

Dee Sweeney won first place low net with a net score of 59 and Donna Brown came in second place low net with a net 61.

During the Discovery Bay Women’s Golf Club outing on Sept. 9, the women also played their weekly competition, which was a game called “T’s and F’s.” 

For this game, only the holes that begin with a T or an F were counted toward the total gross score minus handicap. 

The winner was Cindy Westwood with a net score of 29. Second place went to Terry Graham with a net 34; third place was won by Wanda Synnestvedt with 34.5; and fourth found Cindy Breed with 35. 

Jane Peoples and Lynn Pierle tied for fifth place, each finished with a net 35.5.

There was also a tie for sixth place between Sheila Kilmer and Judith Murdock, each with a net score of 36.

The Port Townsend Womens’ 9-hole Golf Club played “Blind Partners” during their day on the links Sept. 7.

For this game partners were drawn after the round and their total net scores were then combined to determine the winners.

Karen Michaud and Starla Audette were the first-place team with a total net score of 68. 

Ann Meier and Barb Aldrich secured second place with a net 76.9. 

In third place was the team of Linda Deal and Lynn Bidlake with a combined net score of 82. 

Rivals battle Warriors to impressive victory

East Jefferson sank Seattle Christian 3-2 in girls varsity volleyball Monday night.

The Warriors triumphed in the first set, 25-19, but the Rivals came roaring back to win the second, 25-18.

Seattle Christian responded with a close 25-17 victory in the third, but East Jefferson bounced back in a big way to win the final two sets, 25-21, 16-14.

Sophie Patterson tallied two kills and two blocks for East Jefferson, while teammate Jessi Hawley added three aces, one kill, and three blocks.

Macy Aumock finished with two kills and one block for the Rivals, while Alyssa Vandenberg added aces, one kill, and three blocks.

Ellise Gardner had three aces, and Akira Anderson added five aces and five kills in the total team effort.

The Rivals junior varsity also won, and rallied past the Warriors 2-1.

Seattle Christian prevailed in the first set, 25-9.

It was all East Jefferson the rest of the way, however, with the Rivals powering to a 25-9 second-set win followed by a 17-15 closer.

Rivals Coach Emily Zenz said the standout player was Makayla Vandenberg, who had five aces and two kills.
