Pat Scott passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 92 on December 12, 2023 in Seattle, WA.

A lifelong Washingtonian, Pat was born in Seattle on June 20, 1931 in Seattle, but her home for the majority of her life was in Port Townsend. She is survived by her two sons Kenneth and Dennis Soapes.

As a member of The Greatest Generation, Pat was ai independent woman who lived a life of service. While attending night school, Pat worked at Fort Worden when it was a juvenile diagnostic and treatment center. When Fort Worden closed, Pat began a new career as a labor representative for the Washington Association of State, County and Municipal Employees, a job that involved a great deal of travel around Washington State. Pat was a skillful and persistent negotiator on behalf of state employees in various employment segments.

After retirement, Pat returned to Port Townsend, but her work was not done. She became a volunteer as a Guardian Ad Litem for the Jefferson County Court system. Pat used the skills she developed as a union representative during her 20 years in service as a GAL. Pat invested nearly 200 hours in training and spent thousands of hours helping young people, representing them in meetings with the court, social workers, therapists, school personnel, probation officers, counselors, parents, adoptive parents, and attorneys. Pat was known for her ability to ask probing and insightful questions, and her extra effort to attain exceptionally positive outcomes for the children she represented. She was awarded the Court Appointed Special Associates (CASA) Award of Excellence in 2006.

Pat was a life-long learner, avid gardener, and world traveler. She was “Grandma” to many and is also survived by her many wonderful friends and neighbors.

A celebration of life will be held in Port Townsend at a time and place to be announced.
