Opposition to moving to Phase Three of plan | Letter to the editor

In his column in The Leader of Sept. 30, Bill Mann expressed support for Port Townsend/Jefferson County to move to Phase Three of COVID-19 restrictions, i.e. to open up more.

Mr. Mann pitched the very same idea in a post on the social medium NextDoor Port Townsend on Sept. 23.

Within a few days he had 60 responses from about 20 local residents. Not a one supported his suggestion. Many explained why it is a bad idea. Mr. Mann chose not to acknowledge this opposition in his column.

His right, of course, but a shame nonetheless.

How many of those who responded have had there income cut or lost via this lockdown? Or lost their business? I put an ad for a contract cookie baker and the amount of responses I got was staggering. The worst thing was the desperate situation many of them spoke of due to this lockdown. Being in the home loan biz, I am VERY lucky to be super busy during this time, but when you talk to several people applying for this job and they are virtually sobbing and pleading to hire them, it just breaks my heart. And to be fair, I know many people who had the corona, including myself, and not one of them has died. Some got pretty sick, but most had mild symptoms. No one wants people to needlessly die and when people imply that, it is ridiculous
