Here’s an offer of help with housing who the recipients will be certain is full of pride for all involved: Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County and Olympic Pride have teamed up to do a Pride Build this weekend.
Organizers hope it will be the first of many.
“Habitat brings people together to solve this big problem of housing and any more that we can bring in to help with this, we want to do it,” said Jamie Maciejewski, executive director for Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County.
The build, which quickly filled all of its slots for volunteers, will take place Saturday, Sept. 24 and end in the raising of two single-family houses.
The future residents are also doing their sweat equity alongside the community of volunteers from Olympic Pride, Maciejewski said.
“Olympic Pride is honored to collaborate with East Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity to help provide a home for a member of our community. We are excited to service the community in this manner and look forward to continuing our collaboration,” said Ellen Michael Caldwell, Olympic Pride execute director.
That sentiment of sustained dedication is true all-around.
“I’m sure we’ll do this again,” Maciejewski noted.
While there are plenty of differences and disagreements between groups on the various sides of the political divides, Maciejewski summed up the sense of togetherness this event hopes to foster: “Can we agree that at least it’s important to build housing?”
