Jefferson County Communications is having significant issues with incoming 911 calls, according to the Department of Emergency Management.
In the case of an emergency, call 911 first, Emergency Management Public Information Officer Keppie Keplinger said. If you have a mobile phone and get a fast busy signal, then text emergency information to 911.
If neither works, call 360-344-9779, ext. 0. But only do so in an actual emergency, Keplinger said. She reported citizens calling in to test the number, which potentially could affect response times in an actual emergency.
The Port Townsend Police Department non-emergency number is 360-385-2322.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number is 360-385-3831.
East Jefferson Fire Rescue said CenturyLink reported a nationwide issue Dec. 27 during which customers reported problems dialing 911 and receiving a fast busy signal.
Dispatchers have been testing 911 lines statewide overnight. As of Dec. 28, East Jefferson Fire Rescue posted to Facebook it is receiving 911 calls again. However, with the ongoing work on the issue there may be intermittent times that it goes down again.
