New COVID-19 infection discovered in south Jefferson County

Jefferson County's two-week string of zero new cases of COVID-19 was broken Tuesday after public health officials announced a south county man in his 20s had tested positive for the disease.

The last previous confirmed case of coronavirus was reported Tuesday, March 2, and involved a south Jefferson County man in his 30s tested positive.

The new case on Tuesday, March 16 moved the total number of confirmed COVID cases in Jefferson County to 337.

Health officials reported Tuesday that one resident remains in isolation. 

Thirty Jefferson county residents were still awaiting COVID-19 test results Tuesday.

According to Jefferson County Public Health, a total of 20,146 tests have been administered for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and 19,779 tests have come back negative.

Through Tuesday, 155 COVID cases have been found in Port Townsend residents; 150 in mid-county residents; and 32 in south county (Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).

Based on gender, 173 males have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Jefferson County, and 164 females have tested positive.

A total of 24 residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and two deaths have been linked to COVID-19.

County health officials reported that 328 people have recovered from COVID-19.

People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.
